THEMATIC WORKSHOP – Mental Health, Young People and Economic Inactivity

Location: Online workshop

Event Date: 18 November 2026

This is a free event

Wednesday 18 November, 13:30 – 15:00

Public Health Scotland (PHS) has been focusing on the trends in health-related economic inactivity among young people aged 16-24 in Scotland, and the extent to which mental health is driving what appears to be a rise in the number of young people who are economically inactive.

To do this, PHS has engaged with data, evidence and a range of stakeholders to capture their views on the current system surrounding young people’s post-school transitions into study, training and work.

A short report, based on what this work has found so far, is available here: https://publichealthscotland.scot/publications/young-people-economic-inactivity-and-mental-health

Join Julie Arnot from PHS to hear more about the findings so far, to share your views on this work and to help us better understand what needs to change in the system to make post-school transitions more effective for young people struggling with mental health issues and anxiety.

There will be a presentation, interactive questions and opportunities for Q and A.

To register for the workshop email pegs.bailey@tsi.scot to request a Teams invite.
