Applications Open for Making Work Work

Brief Summary: Applications are open for Making Work Work, an award-winning programme helping Edinburgh women return to work or progress their careers through training, mentoring and personalised support.

We are pleased to share the return of our award-winning employability programme, Making Work Work for Edinburgh Women.

Funded by Capital City Partnership’s Local Growth Fund, the programme aims to reduce economic inactivity among women returning to work and support women already in employment to upskill and increase their earnings through CMI-recognised group training and one-to-one support.

The programme has five key elements: Professional Skills Refresh, Events and Masterclasses, Mentoring, Continuous Learning, and Ongoing Support. Between now and March 2027, we will work with women to build their knowledge, confidence and networks, identify their existing skills and ideal work-life balance, and refresh their employability skills through support with applications, CVs and interview preparation.

Applications are now open, with the first cohort starting at the end of August and places still available.

We would love your support in spreading the word about Making Work Work to your service users and delivery partners. By doing so, you can help us reach women who would benefit from this opportunity to return to work, progress in their careers, and become part of a supportive community.

Making Work Work – for Edinburgh Women is a fully funded, free of charge employability programme for women living in Edinburgh. It helps women to re-enter the workplace or progress on from work where they are not working at the level, salary or hours of which they are capable.

You are eligible to apply for the programme if:

Management experience includes managing people, projects, cases, client accounts, classes/learners, or portfolios, and can be from any sector; you don’t need to have formal team or line management experience. Management aspirations include being interested in taking on management and leadership responsibilities in the future, or learning more about management and leadership to better understand the importance of positive workplace cultures, or starting up or becoming self-employed.

Training will be online and live via Zoom two mornings per week for 6 weeks; active participation is mandatory. In addition, we suggest you commit to a further 5-10 hours per week for reflection and career planning to maximise the benefit of the programme. The next training starts 25 August 2026. Please apply as soon as possible. Once this training is fully booked, applications roll-over to the next training starting 27 October 2026, then January 2027.
