Parental Transition Fund for Employability Providers

There is ongoing funding available.

The Parental Transition Fund helps remove practical barriers that prevent parents and carers from progressing towards employment, training, or career development opportunities.

Applications can only be submitted by employability providers on behalf of eligible clients. Individuals cannot apply directly.

Who Can Be Supported?

Clients must meet all of the following criteria:

• They are working with an Edinburgh employability project.
• They are unemployed or currently in low paid employment.
• They are a parent or carer living in Edinburgh.

They also fall into at least one of the following priority groups:

• Lone parent
• Family with a disabled parent or disabled child#
• Family with three or more children
• Minority ethnic family
• Family with a baby under one year old
• Mother aged under 25 years

What Funding Can Cover

The fund may support costs that help clients achieve employment related goals, including:

• Training and qualifications such as licences, accredited courses, and vocational training.
• Work clothing and equipment required for employment, including interview clothing and safety footwear.
• Transport and travel costs such as public transport passes, bicycles, or, where appropriate, taxis for individuals with severe physical disabilities. Driving lessons may be considered where they are required for employment.
• Language support, including translation services for employment related documents.
• Short term childcare costs that enable participation in training, courses, or employability activities.

What Cannot Be Funded

The fund cannot support:

• Long term childcare costs.
• Long term travel costs.
• Items or services that have already been purchased.

Important Information for Providers

Funding is paid directly to the supplier, provider, or retailer. Payments are not made directly to clients. Applications are typically assessed within seven working days of receipt. The fund is available until available funding is exhausted or until March 2027.

How Providers Apply

Eligible clients must be referred and supported by their employability worker. When submitting an application, providers should be able to supply a quote, invoice, website link, or a clear description of the item or support being requested and explain how it will help the client achieve their employability goals.
